Hotel Near Old Monterey and Monterey State Historic Park

Old Monterey is just down Munras Avenue from Stargazer Hotel. Monterey served as the capital of Alta California under Spanish and then Mexican rule, and the downtown still holds historic adobes, walled gardens, and the Custom House on Custom House Plaza, preserved as part of Monterey State Historic Park.

The Path of History is a self-guided walking route that links the historic buildings through downtown, with Alvarado Street's cafes and restaurants and Fisherman's Wharf all within a few blocks.

Tips

  • Start at Custom House Plaza and follow the Path of History markers.
  • Check the park website for which buildings and gardens are open on the day you visit.
  • In December, do not miss Christmas in the Adobes, when the historic houses open in the evening by luminaria light.
